RAW Health Olive Oil Scoops Sixth Award This Year
With no less than six awards under its belt, RAW Health Kalamata Extra Virgin Olive Oil, has to be the high-quality olive oil of choice this year. Last month this certified raw and organic olive oil received its latest acclamation - a Gold at the Great Taste Awards 2010, organised by the Guild of Fine Food.
Other impressive feats comprise triumphing over Italian olive oils to claim a Gold Award at the ‘Monocultivaroliveoil’ Expo in Milan and setting a record as the first Greek olive oil to win a Diploma Di Gran Menzione at the 4th International Olive Oil Competition held in Parma, Italy. Further awards achieved this year include 1st prize at Biofach 2010 in Germany, Platinum Taste Award at the Festival of Olives in Greece, and an award in China, proving this extraordinary olive oil can even compete at international level.
The Kalamata olives that go into the oil are the finest available, being first hand-harvested and then cold pressed within 3 days of picking, in order to preserve the fresh taste and aroma of the fruit.
The specific qualities of the olive oil have attracted accreditation as a food product with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). The European PDO regulation aims to protect diversity against homogenization, therefore promoting sustainable production. The production site itself uses solar technology that allows it to be totally self-sufficient as regards its energy consumption. The scheme also aims to ensure the survival of traditional production methods, thus contributing to better incomes for farmers, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
